Access Statement for Roseglen Hotel
Introduction
Roseglen Hotel is a 2 storey Victorian small hotel, ideally located 5 mins walk
away from Shanklin town centre. The esplanade is a 5 min walk to the end of the
road and can be accessed by the cliff lift. The Old Village is 10 mins walk
away, if you take the High Street route there's a steep hill alternative access
is from Alexander road go to the end of the road and turn right. The railway
station is 10/15 mins walk at the top of Regent St and the bus is off Regent
Street outside the Co-Op.
We are situated in Palmerston Road which is flat, just off the High St, there is
a slight incline in Cross Street which connects Palmerstone Road and the High
St.
The Hotel has 12 bed rooms all en suite with 3 twin and 1 single on the ground
floor. The lounge, dining room and cloak room are also on the ground floor and
all can be accessed by wheelchair users. The entrance to the Hotel is via 3
steps, a ramp is available which can be requested at the time of booking

Pre-Arrival

There is Shanklin train station which is a 10/15 min walk from the Hotel,
this only travels between Shanklin & Ryde

The busses terminal is outside the co-op which is a 10 min walk away, you
can travel around the Island mainly via Newport. A bus timetable can be
obtained from reception.

We have numbers for taxi firms and can book one on your behalf, also an
accessible taxi if required.

The Hotel has its own minibus, arrangements can be made for collections or
trips around the Island.

Car Parking and Arrival
-
When you arrive at the Hotel, parking is on road with plenty of parking
anywhere along Palmerstone Road, there are also double yellow lines in some
places.

The front of the Hotel is walled at both sides, from the road is pavement,
at each end of the wall there are dropped kerbs.

From the pavement, you access the Hotel via a concrete footpath 216cm long,
there is a small step 14 cm high from the pavement to footpath.

Before reaching the front door there are 2 steps 18cm high with hand rails
at either side. After the 2nd step is a flat platform before you reach the
front door where there is a small step 6cm high.
Welcome Area
-
Once you are in the front door you are in the 191 cm wide carpeted hallway.
Everything on the ground floor is level. On the left hand side is the
doorway 79 cm to the lounge which is carpeted and measures 640 cm by 515cm.
There are 2 settees in the lounge 44 cm high, 2 large chairs 47 cm high and
a corner settee 47 cm high.

As you enter the lounge on the left hand side is the reception desk. Through
the lounge is the bar area which is accessed by a 95cm opening.
Bedrooms

There are 4 bedrooms on the ground floor, all accessed by a carpeted
corridor.

Bedroom 1 is along the corridor passed the lounge. The bedroom door is 72 cm
wide and the bathroom doorway is 66 cm. When entering the bedroom there is a
small step 5cm. The bedroom is carpeted and measures 570 cm by 240 cm. This
is a twin bedded room, the space between the beds are 53 cm and allows left
or right transfer. Also in the room is a wardrobe, dressing table, bedside
cabinet, small table and 2 wicker armchairs with cushion pads. The room can
be accessed by a wheelchair, the furniture can be moved if necessary for
ease of access.

Bedroom 2 is at the end of the corridor and this is a single room, the door
width is 63cm and the bathroom entrance is 56 cm. The bedroom is carpeted
and measures 292 cm by 180 cm. Also in the room is a fitted wardrobe, chest
of drawers, single bed and a wicker armchair with cushion pad.

Bedroom 3 is also at the end of the corridor opposite room 2. The doorway is
71 cm wide and the bathroom entrance is 75 cm wide. This room has twin beds,
the room is carpeted and measures 367 cm by 400 cm. The beds are 55 cm
apart, the left bed can be moved to create a wider space between the beds
and the beds can be accessed by right or left transfer. also in the room is
a dressing table with stool, bedside cabinets, wardrobe, wooden backed chair
and a straight backed soft chair. This room can be accessed by wheelchair,
the furniture can be moved if necessary for ease of access.

Bedroom 4 is along the corridor, the door width is 72 cm and the bathroom
entrance is 74 cm. The room is carpeted and measures 320 cm by 384 cm. It
has twin beds which can be altered to a double. There is a space of 60 cm
between the beds, the left bed can be moved to allow a wider space. Also in
the room is a wardrobe, dressing table and stool, bedside cabinets and a
straight backed soft chair. The room can be accessed by wheelchair,
furniture can be moved if necessary for ease of access.

The remaining 8 bedrooms are all on the 1st floor which can be accessed by
our wide carpeted staircase. There is a combination of single, twin, double
or family rooms.
Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

All our rooms have en suite bath or shower, there are no private or shared
bathrooms.

Room 1 has a low pile carpeted floor 132cm by 232 cm. The bath is 55cm high
and the toilet is 42 cm high. There is a grab rail over the bath and bath
handles on the top to assist with a shower over the bath. On the right-hand
side of the toilet is a hand rail. The hand basin by the bath has a shelf,
mirror and shaving light.

Room 2 has a lino flooring and measures 140 cm by 130 cm. The shower cubicle
is 70 cm by 70cm, and a step 17 cm high to the shower. At the back of the
shower is a grab rail, the toilet is 45 cm high with a hand rail to the
left. Above the hand basin is a shelf, mirror and shaving light.

Room 3 has lino flooring and measures 336 cm by 166 cm. The bath is 52 cm
high and the toilet 43 cm high. At the side of the bath is a hand rail to
assist access in the bath which is secured to the floor. Over the bath is a
shower, by the hand basin there is a stool if required. Over the hand basin
is a shelf, mirror and shaving light.

Room 4 has lino flooring measuring 141cm by 312 cm. There is a shower en
suite which measures 70 cm by 70 cm, the step into the shower is 15cm and
has a shutter door with a grab rail at the back wall of the shower. The
toilet is 42 cm high, over the handbasin is a shelf, mirror and shaving
light, also a stool if needed.

All the other remaining en suites are a combination of baths with showers
over the bath and shower cubicles.
Public Areas - Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

Once inside the front door, you are on a level carpeted hallway. On the
right-hand side is the doorway to the Reception, Lounge and Bar. Past this
doorway is the corridor to the cloak room and the 4 ground floor bedrooms.
On the left-hand side is the doorway to the Dining room. Past this is the
wide staircase which takes you to the 1st floor and the other 8 bedrooms,
the staircase has a banister rail at the right hand side.

All public areas are well lit by wall and ceiling lighting. There is also
emergency lighting in place. The doors in all the public areas are held open
by a mechanical door release, they comply to the fire safety regulations and
allow easy access to these areas for our guests.

We have an audible fire alarm, which we test regularly and there are
electric fire sensors in all rooms to comply to fire safety regulations. Any
guest with hearing or mobility difficulties should advise us when they check
in in order for us to assist with evacuation procedures in case of a fire.

Dining Room

The dining room is situated on the ground floor, on the left hand side as
you enter the front door. There is seating for 26 guests with table settings
for 1 to 4 people per table.

Breakfast is served between 08.30 to 09.30, early breakfasts can be arranged
by request. There is a lot of choice from cereal, fruit juice, yoghurts,
croissants, cooked breakfast and tea, coffee and toast.

Evening meals are also served between 18.00 and 19.00, the menu changes
daily and consists of a choice of starters, main course and deserts,
followed by tea & coffee. Any special diets can be catered for, please
advise before booking.

Doorway to the dining room is 84 cm wide, the room is carpeted and measures
616 cm by 500 cm. Wheelchair users can use their chairs in the dining area,
tables and chairs can be moved if necessary.
